BAMTEC®-Reinforcement Technology

BAMTEC® - The Idea

The inventors

The idea for BAMTEC® was developed and applied for patent in 1993 by Dipl.-Ing. (TU), Dipl.-Kfm. Wilhelm Häussler and Dipl.-Ing.(TU) Nobert Nieder. The aim was the endeavour to find a solution for method for reinforcements as economically and at the same time simple in execution as possible.

The target was to shape plane reinforcement in such a way that only the statically necessary amount of steel will be built in. With conventional wire mesh reinforcement this is not possible most of the times because the steel cross-section of one mat is not sufficient, but when selecting stronger mats or when using two mats there is too much of reinforcement.

Substantial excess reinforcements are also the result of insufficient optimization when selecting mats and lay-out of mats in the engineering office. This is due to cheap prices for structural engineering, time pressure and avoiding deliberately too many different types of mats. This excess reinforcement shows especially in biaxial load-bearing behaviour of ceilings because the reinforcement cross-section has to be optimized in both directions.

Other excess reinforcements are due to the fact that within the area of a mat the cross-section statically necessary differs, i.e. it is also smaller in various places than at the point of its most demand, whereas the actual cross-section on the whole of the mat is constant and must be layed out for the point with the highest demand. The statically necessary overlap at each mat boundary and the clippings lead to further superfluous quantities of steel with mat reinforcements.

The two construction engineers, Wilhelm Häussler and Norbert Nieder, saw the solution for this problem in an ordinary round steel reinforcement for each of the two ceiling directions which are to be optimized one at a time. At the steel bending manufacturer, the rods shall be welded onto the crosswise laid installation strap at the pre-calculated distances. In this way the reinforcement mat can be rolled up like a carpet for transportation and be rolled out on the building site.
